Tibetans are smart. First day he rode in the front seat until he managed to get his seatbelt undone. How is that possible? Second day he rode in the middle seat but somehow got under the pet hammock onto the floor and then squeezed through the bottom of the divider to get into the front seat.  Every time he gets in the car he cases it out; his head swiveling, looking at everything, and you can see the wheels turning while he is planning his escape to his desired seating area.

Cheddar  is very striking with one brown and one blue eye. He  weighs 30 pounds which can be a worry as a smaller dog joining in with larger dogs, but he has been well socialized and is a  graduate of Unleashed Pawsabilities a dog training company right here in St Margarets Bay.

When Cheddar met Miley, a 7 month old golden retriever, they became fast friends. She is more than double his weight but she plays with him so respectfully; never knocking him down even though she could. They wrestle, she rolls over, he rolls over, he chases, she chases. And, when they run, they stay side-by-side so their bodies bounce off one another.

The Gang at Tuesdays with Macy..

Penny would be the kind of girl who’s not only beautiful, but smart, well rounded…an A student, an athlete, drama club, and the debate team.

You see Penny’s family gives her all the advantages any dog could want.  A morning walk  and socialization at PPP  and then out to another park  in the afternoon…that’s how I met Penny.  If Penny were a person, she wouldn’t be one of those “mean girls” she would be the type that got along with everyone. The rich kids, the poor kids, the intellectuals, the athletes, the in crowd, the computer geeks.  

All the dogs in the pack love Penny, the big and the small. She invites everyone  to play with her, vigourously or just a tame game of follow the leader.  Mandy literally sulks when Penny plays with another dog. Yes, Penny is in demand….she would definitely be homecoming queen. 

Mom says she would be the teacher’s pet and I know why. On our walks she always stays within calling distance, she bounds in and out of the trails keeping an eye on Mom..and waits for her when she tells her to.  She’s great on recall, leads the other dogs perfectly, greets new dogs cautiously and respectfully—giving them their space but always ready for play. She has manners  in the car and gives Mom kisses after our walks. I know what those kisses mean…they mean thank you, so I’m not jealous….well maybe a little.  

Penny, loving all dogs as she does, would want everyone to know that if you walk at Long Lake Park or any other park in HRM you should be aware of hunters’ snares and know what to do if your dog gets caught in one. Some of the dogs have human parents that do stuff in the evening, like golf, hockey, Nia-technique classes or Qigong practice, so they only come on those days, while some come every day. It’s always different…keeps a girl on her toes.

Of course this all takes something called money, but I think I speak for the pack when I say, we are well worth it. I mean, we do give unconditional love, don’t we? Everyone says they are grateful for even a once-a-week, off leash walk, to socialize with like-minded dogs, and see some squirrels and stuff.

Typically, the pack walks for about 1 hour, but there can’t be more than 5 of us, it’s just not safe and we won’t all fit in her SUV, which I call the ”Pack Carriage”.  Wouldn’t you know, one day I had to stay home, but I enjoyed staring at this sparkly new tree in the corner. I’m not sure why humans do this, it’s slightly odd behaviour to put a tree in your house and hang stuff on it, don’t you think?…but, I digress.  Sometimes too, Mom will take a dog on a solo leashed walk.  Just depends on the dog, you know?

When it’s walk time, it’s quite fun. Even though the walks are an hour, by the time Mom does all the picking up and dropping off, it’s like a 3 hour adventure out of the house and trust me when I say this, we dogs love to get out of the house.

Shannon & Macy after a run at Sandy Lake Park

I had a great day today! Headed out with the gang and swung by and picked up my fav gal pal Mandy and then to Sandy Lake Park where us dogs are allowed off leash.  Even dad came today because it was mom’s birthday and he had promised to come along even though he isn’t into walking us dogs.  It was a beautiful day and as soon as we got there we hooked up with Sophie a black lab from Bedford. She was there with her human parents and 2 two-legged sisters. We ran and played. It was really muddy but we didn’t mind getting dirty.  Even pesky brother Bear is getting used to getting his precious toes cold…you see he came from Miami and this is his first Nova Scotia winter. Mom should have worn her rubber boots though. I heard her mention her new service to the nice people but they said they didn’t really need a dogwalker. Too bad, Sophie was so much fun!!! Lucky Sophie though, when her people go away she stays at The Pampered Paws Inn in Hammonds Plains she says she realy likes it there and says their doggie  ice cream is to die for. I love ice cream maybe I will get to go this summer! I managed to keep up with the other dogs pretty well even though I have something called mast cell tumors. Mom says that means cancer whatever that is. I have been fighting this for a year and have had many operations but now my vet, Dr. Mosher  from Tantallon Veterinary Hospital says I can have whatever I want and I say beer and pizza so that can’t be a bad thing.  I hope we meet up with Sophie and her people again really soon, we enjoyed their company.
